True Leadership

January 21st, 2009

Yesterday the 20th of January 2009, we saw the inauguration of the 44th President of the USA, a man who stands for what he believes in, a leader who emanates hope. A figure that not only American public respect and admire, but citizens all over the world.

Yesterday was also an important day for the Irish nation as yesterday’s parliamentary sitting was held to commemorate the first sitting of Dáil Éireann 90 years ago, when a separate Irish parliament was established. Yesterday was a day that the Irish could feel pride for our forefathers, whose blood and sweat allow us to live in this wealthy free nation. This was a day to celebrate, a day to rejoice, remembering and honoring the great men and women who brought us to where we stand today.

Leaders however where not discernible yesterday in Dáil Éireann, there were no inspiring speeches, there was no memorable rhetoric. There was just negativity and blame, pretty much the typical narrative of the current Irish Government. The bearers of doom and gloom.

Our land of Saints and Scholars, poets we have, but definitely no Prophets anywhere to be seen. Just a bunch of bickering upstarts, who have lead us in the wrong direction for far too long.

Obama give us hope; inspire some leadership in the men and women who represent this great country, May the patriotism and optimism you aroused in the people of your country miraculously appear in the leaders of our nation. Who will emerge to lead us and guide us through these troubled times to prosperity and harmony again?
