The Pareto Principal

In the early nineteen hundreds Vilfredo Pareto an Italian economist observed that 80% of Italy’s wealth was held by 20% of the population. He carried on to test this principal in other countries and found the distribution of wealth to be similar.

This observation was later coined “The Pareto Principal” or Pareto’s Law by Dr Joseph Juran. Pareto’s Law was introduced to describe the distribution of wealth among individuals as Pareto had identified it but Juran went on to expand the principal applying it to his area quality and subsequently t o many different disciplines. The “80-20” rule or “The rule of the Vital Few” as it is also referred to can be applied to almost any area of life such as

20% of sales people produce 80% of sales
20% of clients create 80% of sales?
20% of products produce 80% of revenue?
20% of your time generates 80% of your results?
